Hi there! My name is Shane and I am 5 and a half years old. I just started Kindergarten yesterday at my very own special school at home where Mommy is my teacher. I LOVE Sesame Street, especially Big Bird and Elmo and never miss a new episode and I can watch Sesame Street ALL day and NEVER tire of it (poor Mommy and Daddy. LOL. ) I'm a special little boy- I was born very sick and spent almost my first year in the hospital on lots of machines. I don't run and play like most kids, though I walk really well. I can't talk just yet, but I try to talk with my hands. You see, I can't hear too well, and I have to wear special things in my ears to help me hear. I get sick every once in a while and have to go back to the hospital. I wear glasses and get in trouble because I like to bend them and break them and Mommy and Daddy get very upset. I love books, especially Sesame Street books, and I sit in my room reading them a lot. I like my room- Mommy painted Looney Toons all over the walls of it specially for me. I don't like to eat food the way most kids do, but Mommy and Daddy and my nurse, Delores, make me try. I have a special thing in my belly called a "button" that feeds me. I went to a special pre-school last year, but the school in my town doesn't have a special Kindergarten, so Mommy and Daddy decided to be my teachers. I love going to see my grandparents and playing with my cousins. I have a cat, called Salem, that I pet and roll around on the floor with. I have some special programs with Big Bird and Elmo that I play on the computer. I've been on T.V. 3 times- once as the poster kid for the local Children's Miracle Network Telethon. I've been in the newspaper lots of times too. I've met a few famous people too, like Grant Hill and a bunch of other basketball players, Enos from the Duke's of Hazzard, some soap opera stars, and even Garth Brooks signed a picture for me. I visited God in heaven 5 times, but He said that Mommy and Daddy needed me so he sent me back home. I must have LOTS of guardian angels. I guess I'm pretty lucky! : ) My very best friend in the whole wide world is my "baby" doll, Mommy made him for me when I was a baby, and he goes with me everywhere. I never go anywhere without a hat either… when I see Daddy with my hat, I know I'm going somewhere! I love to ride! I'm joining Cub Scouts this fall and next spring I'm going to be on a Little League team. Someday soon I hope to be a big brother.
